Driving-Schools-in:

The best way to find a good driving instructor is through personal recommendation.

But remember that it is the  driving instructor teaching you, not the driving school.

The vast majority of driving instructors are self employed, and pay the driving school a franchise fee to use their car and company logo, so, the school works for the instructor - the instructor does not work for the school!

If you do not have  a recommendation for an instructor, do not just go for the cheapest, (around £15 per hour standard rate), you  will probably get an un-registered “instructor” who “teaches” in an old car illegally, who is not insured, an will cost you more in the long run due to not following the DSA syllabus and giving you bad habits.

Also, do not go for the most expensive just because you think they “must” be good.

The best way is to find a local instructor to do your first 2 hours with, and see if they are right for you, and that you are learning from them and not being shouted at!

Take advantage of  offers, like the first 2 hours for the price of one, so that if you do not get on, you can find another instructor.

When you have found a good instructor that you can get on and learn with, do not mess them around by being unreliable, as the driving school will not pay the instructor for lost lessons, and the instructor may well charge you for lost lessons.

Check the instructors terms before starting lessons.

If the instructor is unreliable, get another one as soon as possible!
